What is EAP?

What is EAP?

EAP, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, helps foster communication, cooperation, and trust. The therapist and the equine specialist, certified in EAP, help the person or business team process feelings, behaviors, and patterns observed in the session. Exploring a person's choices helps bring insight to existing dynamics as well as undiscovered potential of the individual. Issues of accountability, ethics, honesty, assertiveness, self control, and perseverance are explored. Each person gains insight into practical applications for everyday situations or in business environments. EAP pairs the wonderfully unique qualities of horses with people. We take the strengths of the individual and pursue the areas of need through the unique relationship the horse has to offer. The horse honestly reflects the individual's behavior. We strive to help individuals, families and the business community become successful and empowered by using the horse as an effective partner.

The experiential nature of Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy is perfect for individual/family therapy sessions or use with business groups. EAP takes people out of their familiar roles and helps them objectively identify their strengths and weaknesses. The exercises are specifically designed to reach goals. Individual strengths are recognized and then utilized to help the individual succeed in his or her assigned task. Work with the horses is done on the ground with no riding involved.
